Terms of service

Website & shop terms
This website is operated by Puzzle Detectives®, a trading name of Candescent Publishing Ltd, registered in England and Wales. Company number 14401614. Registered office: 17 Holyrood Grove, Manchester, M25 1PG. By placing an order or using this site, you’re agreeing to these terms. Please read them carefully before buying anything or starting a treasure hunt.

What we sell
We sell printed and/or digital treasure hunt books and related products designed for self-guided walks.

Prices, payment & orders
All prices are shown in GBP and include UK VAT where applicable. We may update prices and offers from time to time. Your order is accepted when we send you an order confirmation email. If there’s a pricing error or stock issue, we may cancel and refund your order.

Discounts
Discounts and promotional offers are generally not stackable and may not be used in combination with any other discount, voucher, offer, or promotion unless expressly stated otherwise. Where more than one offer is available, only one discount will apply to any single order, booking, or transaction, and the highest-value eligible offer will usually be applied at our discretion. We reserve the right to withdraw, amend, or refuse the use of multiple discounts where this would conflict with the intended terms of the promotion.

Using our treasure hunts
Our hunts are self-guided. You are responsible for your own safety and for anyone in your group while you’re out and about. Please read the Safety & Participation information below before you start, and only take part if you’re happy to accept those terms.

Health, safety & participation
Our treasure hunts are designed to be fun, relaxed outdoor experiences. However, they do involve walking in real streets and public spaces, so we need to be clear about safety.

  • You take part in any Puzzle Detectives treasure hunt entirely at your own risk.
  • You are responsible for your own safety and for supervising any children or vulnerable people in your group at all times.
  • Our routes generally follow public pavements and paths, but you must always use your own judgement and follow the Highway Code and local rules.
  • Never step into the road, cross unsafely, or enter private or restricted property just to solve a clue. If a clue would require anything unsafe, please skip it.

Route changes & conditions
The real world is always changing. Roadworks, scaffolding, closures, new signs or bad weather can affect clues or access.

  • If something on the route is blocked, unsafe or simply no longer there, do not attempt to force your way through or put yourself at risk.
  • You can skip that clue and move on to the next location using common sense, or end the hunt if needed.
  • We can’t be held responsible for any changes to streets, buildings, opening hours or access that are outside our control.

Suitability
Before starting a hunt, please consider:

  • Your group’s mobility, fitness and medical needs.
  • Weather, daylight and ground conditions (for example, ice, heavy rain, heat).
  • Whether the route is suitable for pushchairs, wheelchairs or anyone with limited mobility (check the product description for any notes, but use your own judgement on the day).

If you’re unsure whether a hunt is suitable for you or your group, please contact us before buying or starting.

Alcohol & behaviour
We recommend enjoying our hunts responsibly. Please don’t attempt them while overly tired, unwell, under the influence of alcohol or anything else that might affect your judgement. You’re responsible for behaving considerately towards residents, businesses and other members of the public.

Liability
We design our routes with care, but we can’t control changes in the real world (for example, building works, weather, temporary closures or other people’s actions). As far as the law allows, we’re not liable for any loss, damage, injury or expense arising from taking part in a treasure hunt or using this site, except where caused by our negligence or where the law says we can’t limit our responsibility.

Nothing in these terms affects your statutory rights as a consumer under UK law.
